Lightning trained with manadrive, of course, when she was in the Corps. Never liked it much. The elements felt weird, unresponsive, not as trustworthy as her gunblade. She never managed to make it feel instinctive.

The first time she uses l'Cie magic, the difference takes her breath away. Fire, she thinks, calling for it. Her brand pulses and energy rises to her fingertips, ready to throw toward the enemy. No keywords, no control sequences, just wanting and then having the power. Easy.

She does her best to hide her reaction from the others, but damn. Manadrive never felt that good.

Nice one! I like the ideas you have; this is something I never thought about, but it makes total sense (and finally, I find Lightning gen!)

Ah, thank you! I really liked the detail that ordinary humans use technology to approximate magic -- but I can't help thinking it wouldn't be quite as exciting as the real thing. ^^
